Entanglement to be Pre-installed on Chrome 9

Derek Detweiler
Exciting news! Entanglement has been selected to be a pre-installed app on Chrome 9! Anyone who downloads and installs Chrome 9 will see Entanglement listed on their new tab page alongside a few more productive (but less tangled) apps like Gmail.

Todd and I also had a chance earlier this week to attend the revealing of the Chrome Web Store and Chrome OS in San Francisco. We were especially excited to see Entanglement demoed during the presentation as an example of running a web app offline.

Thanks to everyone who has given us great feedback in the Chrome Web Store. Your thoughtful reviews encourage and challenge us to continue making Entanglement better!

  1. Just played the Entanglement Chrome app. Absolutely fantastic game. As a serious puzzle game enthusiast, I have to say that this concept would make for a great retail release. Thanks for the app, and I hope to see your work on Steam or somewhere.

  2. Entanglement is good fun. Only problem i'm having is that it crashes my Skype Toolbars extension often.

Thanks for the feedback Eric; we'll add this to our list.

  5. Very nice game.
Would you admit a suggestion to improve the usability in non-browser environments? Allow the game to be more keyboard friendly. This will allow better experience in Home Theater environments.

Right now you can mostly play with arrows and enter to move and place pieces. But you need to use the mouse to swap or to start a new game.
This makes it unusable with a limited remote control. If you can assign a key for swap and allow cursor movement in menus (like to restart) this will be solved.

Just FYI I configured Entenglement to be launched from XBMC (using plugin executor and launching chrome with -kiosk command line option to open the game full-screen) and all my family is really caught in it...

  6. We are completely and utterly addicted to this game. Thanks for the diversion! BRILLIANT!

  7. I love this game as well. Features I would love
    1. Add (or make obvious if already there) keyboard ways of new game and swap tile.
    2. Be able to download and view the top 10 games, or at least the final path (to see what I am up against).

  8. that's how i learned it exists.
Guys, there's some absolutelly unbelievable records in your table! 1100+ points and above!
I propose you to store resulting entanglement picture alongside with records, it could be very interesting for others

  9. Thank you all for the great suggestions - we'll take these into consideration as we continue to develop Entanglement for you!

  10. Very nice game. What a time waster! Often, I get two identical tiles at the start of a game. For the geeks: how many distinct tiles are there, and, what is the maximum possible score (either with or without duplicate tiles)?

  11. i am confused about there being two scores. I saw your image of a perfect game, and the score was 169 in the center. But the scores on the upper left are higher, usually. How do they relate?

  12. Hey Derek, this is a great game, congratulations on all the traction you're getting. FYI, we just posted a very positive review of Entanglement on our blog http://www.chromeadvisor.com/2011/01/02/entanglement/

Check it out, there are a couple of suggested improvements in the review. BTW, my wife is addicted and hasn't stopped playing it!

  13. @Rolan - you might enjoy this discussion...

@mary - the perfect game post is from prior to our update to how scores are calculated. At the time that post was written, the number of line segments was the score. You can still only get a maximum of 169 line segments (the number in the center), but your score gets a bonus determined by how many line segments you can complete in a single move (the upper left number).

@Ross - thank you for the thoughtful review! I'm also glad your wife is enjoying it! I've made note of your suggestions - we'll see what we can do :-)

  14. How about this for another variation: Instead of all the walls being dead-ends, place loopbacks in them. Also loopbacks in 5 of the 6 sides of the center starter tile. Maybe call this the easy version, since the only way to end the game is to get back to the center. Expect higher scores.

  15. @Rolan - We actually have something quite like that in progress. I just posted a screenshot if you want to check it out.

  16. I saw the pic. Bushes are nice. But you still have deadends. I was thinking of a board with only 1 deadend, next to the start. But that looks good!

  17. Some random thoughts on the "bush" tiles -
    1) Use them to make a miniature golf course/obstacle course.
    2) Place a number of bush tiles, and the goal is to visit all of them with your path.
    3) Make the bushes larger, to hide how the paths go under the bush. You go into a bush, but where will you come out???

  18. Any plans to make an Entanglement app for iphone or Droid?

I'd love to be able to play some multiplayer Entanglement with my contacts.

Or, at the very least, online support in the future?

    Awesome game, guys!

  19. I would love to see this on android. I just played this game for the first time 5 minutes ago and I'm shocked at how much I enjoy it. Reminds me of this pipe game I used to play when I was a kid.. but better.

  20. Absolutely magnificent. I'm 42 and my teenaged daughter showed me this game because she thought I would like it. Which I do.
Congratulations on the real life recognition. Well deserved.
Typing this message on my droid phone, also wishing I could have it with me. Thank you.

  21. I found this game in the chrome apps and sent it out to a few friends and my husband! we are all hooked! I would really like to see the solutions which are yielding 100+ points. My brain cant conceive what they would look like! I totally love this game!

  22. Great app, first time using Google app store.

I got the following error each and every time when trying to authenticate with my google account to record my scores..

    "Google
    Error

    Request-URI Too Large

The requested URL /accounts/SetSID... is too large to process."

  23. Completely addicted, as are my friends and family. Again though, an app on the droid would be AMAZING

  24. Crashes everytime I try to open it in chrome. funny.

  25. BRING THIS GAME TO DROID..... IT'S FREAKING AWESOME..... AND I'M HOOKED

  26. Great game. Got me hooked since February. Sad that the high scores are so easily spammable. Right now someone got the first six places with scores like 8515 and 7941. It's not the first time it happens. I'm a good player, ranked among the first 15 places, and this kinda kills the game for me. Suggestion: make online games get tiles from the server and make the server check every move. Cheers!

  27. instead of the play again button do consider tapping on the centre tile where the score is displayed to restart the game -- thanks!

  28. Any plans for an Android app? There is a cheap knock-off on there, but it's nothing like the Entanglement you make.

  29. please can we have an android app, I introduced my daughter to the game a while ago and now she can play on her touch while I can't with my smart phone.

  30. I see I'm adding to a chorus of requests here, but I found it strange that a game I discovered on Chrome is not available as an Android app. And yes, I'm aware that they are not the same OS, but they live in the same universe, and are apparently headed for a convergence. Anyway, +1 on requests for Android app! Thanks.
